Coffe History



The Arabica coffee is a thousand years old drink , discovered in the first centuries of the Christian era. Coffee has specific health benefits: It is diuretic and contents antioxidants. Furthermore it is recommended for aiding digestion and relieving tiredness. In the 5th century A.D. the Persians and the Arabians took the coffee beans  to Arabia and Yemen and then to Europe in 1600. In 1740 it was taken to El Salvador and  then finally to Costa Rica in 1796. 


 


In 1816 the first plantations were cultivated in Costa Rica and in 1875 coffee was exported to England for the first time. Commercial and cultural connections between both of the countries allowed young Costa Rican intellectuals to  study in England and return as doctors, engineers or entrepreneurs contributing to the improvement of Costa Ricans’ lifestyle. Today Costa Rica is one of the most successful states in Central America.
